Curb Your Enthusiasm Filming Locations
This is a collection of Curb Your Enthusiasm filming locations. I started this in 2021 when I was watching A LOT of late-night TV while feeding and cuddling my fussy newborn daughter who didn’t want to sleep. My favorite show, of course, was Curb Your Enthusiasm, and as I re-watched the early seasons, I started wondering where all the scenes were filmed and whether they looked the same in the 2020s as they did in the early 2000s. I started gathering a collection of addresses and scene-screenshots, and once it had reached about 80 locations, I put it all online. After
getting up to about 100 locations, I had pretty much decided to stop. Around that time though, Robert Weide, a Director and Executive Producer of Curb (and also the creator of
an amazing documentary called Kurt Vonnegut: Unstuck in Time https://www.vonnegutmovie.com/ ), graciously offered to let me look through a large collection of call sheets that he kept from the episodes of Curb that he directed and/or produced. A side note about Mr. Weide: he makes a great latte. If the Academy Award nomination, the documentaries, the TV shows, and the Emmy awards haven't fulfilled his career ambitions, he still has a bright future as a barista. A
little more background: Many Curb scenes are filmed in restaurants, shops, offices, and homes in the Westside communities surrounding Los Angeles, most often Pacific Palisades, Brentwood, and Santa Monica. For quite a few filming locations, especially restaurants, finding the location was just a matter of googling a business name. Many of the restaurants and shops from earlier seasons of Curb are out of business, but their digital footprints have not been erased. Other
scenes required quite a bit of research and detective work. For example,
finding where Larry’s therapist mugged Cheryl’s therapist was a chore. One thing that shouldn’t have surprised me as much as it did was how many restaurants and retail shops that existed in the early 2000s have long since gone out of business. Entire neighborhoods have changed. Mom and pop stores have been replaced with Starbucks. Curb has been on for nearly 25 years, and it serves as a pretty cool visual history of the west side of Los Angeles. One
example of this gentrification or whatever you want to call it is where Larry
is frantically running to 23rd Street Jewelers to get “The Bracelet” before
Richard Lewis could buy it. Larry ran past Madame Wu’s Garden on Wilshire,
which was a celebrity hangout that opened in 1959. It’s now a Whole Foods
Market.
